Robotic mowers and possible EU duties ahead of 2027
Europe’s robotic mower market could face a significant change in the coming months. On 29 October 2026, German trade publication Motorist reported developments in the anti-dumping investigation into machines originating in China, alongside Kress’s initial response. The news deserves attention as buyers prepare for the 2027 season.
What Motorist reports
Citing a European Commission document dated 21 October, Motorist describes proposed rates of 45.6% for Mammotion, 47% for other cooperating producers and 53.3% for Positec and other operators identified in its article. The publication considers definitive measures highly likely.
As of 30 October, the Commission’s official register still lists AD745 as an ongoing investigation with no anti-dumping measure applied. The reported rates should therefore be understood as developments within a proceeding that has yet to conclude.
Why Kress’s response matters
According to Motorist, Kress has moved production of much of its range outside China and expects many models to fall outside the possible duties. Voyager and MasterSeries would remain manufactured in China and could require price adjustments in 2027.
This highlights the importance of each product’s customs origin as well as its brand. Any production move must be assessed against the applicable origin rules.

What buyers should consider
A duty does not automatically mean an identical percentage increase in the retail price. Customs value, supplier decisions, stock and distribution arrangements will all influence the outcome. Models within the same brand may face different circumstances.
For a purchase in an EU country, ask for current information on the exact model, availability and quotation terms. Local support, spare parts and suitability for the garden remain central to a sound long-term choice.
This proceeding concerns imports into the European Union. It does not automatically establish duties in the United Kingdom, Switzerland or other non-EU markets.
Consider the whole installation
Our view is that careful planning remains the best basis for choosing a mower: the right machine for the site, a well-positioned charging station and practical maintenance access. The support available over the coming years deserves attention alongside the purchase price.
At IdeaMower, our contribution is protection for the mower and charging area through garages for specific models, selected for compatibility and the needs of the installation.
