Yarbo Garage, RTK and GPS: Installation Principles

Yarbo relies on positioning and vision technologies to navigate and perform autonomous work. For this reason, a garage cannot be evaluated only by asking whether the robot fits underneath it. The position of the dock, surrounding obstacles, roof material and open space around the robot all matter.

No garage can create a strong satellite signal in a poor location. A good design minimizes unnecessary obstacles and works with a correctly positioned charging station.

Compatibility note: The Möbius Garage is designed for Yarbo with the lawn mower module. It is not suitable for Yarbo with the Snow Blower / snow thrower module attached, because that configuration has different dimensions and operating requirements.

Why an enclosed garage may cause problems

Walls, dense roofs, nearby buildings and certain materials can reduce satellite visibility or contribute to reflected signals. A robot parked deep inside a closed shed may need manual intervention before it can acquire a suitable position and start a work plan.

This is why the IdeaMower approach is an open technical shelter rather than a miniature building.

Roof material matters

Möbius uses a transparent polycarbonate roof selected with RTK/Vision applications in mind. The roof provides physical coverage while avoiding the heavy, fully enclosed construction typical of a metal shed.

This design choice supports signal-friendly installation, but it is not a universal guarantee. Actual performance also depends on trees, nearby walls, roof overhangs, buildings, terrain and the location of the Yarbo antennas and dock.

Preserve the docking envelope

Yarbo needs adequate space to approach, align, turn and leave. Do not use the outside dimensions of the garage as the only planning measurement. The complete docking envelope includes:

  • the parked robot and attached module;
  • the charging station;
  • the approach corridor;
  • lateral movement during alignment;
  • access required for inspection and cleaning;
  • the manufacturer’s recommended clearance from obstacles.

Always follow the latest Yarbo installation manual for the exact robot and module being used.

  1. Install and test the Yarbo charging station without the garage.
  2. Confirm reliable automatic docking and departure.
  3. Mark the required movement and clearance areas.
  4. Position Möbius without changing the dock geometry.
  5. Anchor the garage independently on a suitable surface.
  6. Confirm that no structural element enters the robot’s path.
  7. Repeat docking and departure tests.
  8. Verify RTK/GPS status after the robot has remained under the roof.
  9. Recheck the installation after the first weeks of operation.

What “RTK-safe” means for IdeaMower

For IdeaMower, RTK-safe does not mean promising perfect reception in every garden. It means designing the garage around modern satellite- and vision-guided robots: transparent roof, open sides, minimal enclosure and independent placement.

The final installation must still be verified in its real environment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does polycarbonate block the Yarbo GPS signal?

The Möbius transparent polycarbonate roof is selected for an RTK/Vision-friendly design. Nevertheless, total signal quality is determined by the complete site, not the roof alone.

Can I install the dock next to a wall?

Use Yarbo’s current clearance and positioning requirements. Nearby walls and structures can affect both maneuvering and satellite reception.

Should I install the garage before setting up Yarbo?

It is preferable to establish and test a reliable charging location first, then add the independently anchored garage without changing the dock geometry.

How can I confirm compatibility?

Check the exact Yarbo model, module, dimensions and current docking instructions, then compare them with the Möbius product specifications or contact IdeaMower before ordering.
