How to Protect the Yarbo Docking Station

The docking station is where Yarbo spends many of its idle hours. A well-planned docking area helps keep the installation orderly, accessible and less exposed to direct sun, rain and falling debris. Protection, however, must never interfere with charging contacts, robot movement or positioning conditions.

The best approach is to treat the dock, the robot and the garage as one technical installation rather than three unrelated objects.

Compatibility note: The Möbius Garage is designed for Yarbo with the lawn mower module. It is not suitable for Yarbo with the Snow Blower / snow thrower module attached, because that configuration has different dimensions and operating requirements.

Start with the location

Before adding any shelter, confirm that the selected position satisfies Yarbo’s current installation instructions. Consider satellite visibility, the approach path, surface level, drainage and the distance from walls, trees and other obstructions.

A garage cannot correct a poorly positioned dock. First establish a location where the robot charges and starts work reliably; then add protection around that working installation.

Use a stable and suitable surface

The robot must repeatedly enter, align and leave the charging station. The surface should remain stable under the robot’s weight and turning forces. Soft soil can change over time, while standing water, mud or deep ruts can make the area harder to keep clean.

Where appropriate, a properly prepared base or paving area can help maintain alignment. Any surface work must preserve the charging station geometry and drainage specified by Yarbo.

Protect from above, not by closing the robot in

A roof adds a barrier against direct sunlight, rain, leaves and bird droppings. Fully enclosing the docking station may create new problems, including restricted satellite reception, reduced ventilation and insufficient turning clearance.

An open-sided garage is therefore a more balanced solution for an autonomous outdoor robot. It shields the parked unit while keeping the docking zone visible and accessible.

Keep the charging components accessible

Owners and technicians must be able to inspect the dock, clean around the contacts and reach cables and connections. The garage should not be attached to the charging station or rely on it for structural stability.

Möbius is fixed independently. This reduces mechanical interaction with the dock and allows the protection structure and charging system to be handled separately.

Check operation after installation

After installing any garage:

  1. confirm that the dock remains level and stable;
  2. inspect all clearances around Yarbo;
  3. run several automatic return-to-dock tests;
  4. verify departure after the robot has remained parked;
  5. check RTK/GPS status in the actual location;
  6. observe operation in both dry and wet conditions;
  7. recheck anchors and clearances periodically.

Möbius as a complete docking-area solution

The Möbius Garage gives Yarbo a defined, premium parking station without creating a closed room. Its transparent roof is designed with RTK/Vision technology in mind, while the open layout supports airflow and maintenance access. Aluminum composite, steel and UV-protected polycarbonate provide a robust outdoor construction made in Italy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should the Yarbo dock be covered?

Covering it is optional. An open roof can add protection against continuous exposure while preserving access and airflow.

Can the garage be fixed to the charging station?

IdeaMower recommends an independent installation. The garage should not place structural loads on the dock.

Does a roof remove the need to clean the dock?

No. Debris can still enter an open structure, and the robot and charging area require inspection and cleaning according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

What should I test after installing the garage?

Test automatic docking, departure, clearances and positioning status several times under the actual site conditions.
